Day 319 – Monday

I booked all the campsites for our upcoming adventure. We are starting out from our new hometown of Flagstaff AZ and heading North to Page AZ on May 31st. Page is home to Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam. We will also be visiting horseshoe bend which is a spot where the Colorado river basicly does a u-turn around sheer cliff walls of Navajo Sandstone. It was natures path of least resistance and is something I never saw during earlier visits to this area in my youth. I’m pretty sure the first time I visited this area, when I was 10 years old, we just drove through town. I remember going over the Glen Canyon Dam and we just kept on going down the highway. Now we will have some time to take in the town. There is a place right outside of Page called Antelope Canyon which I wanted to tour but, I heard they stopped all the tours because of a massive Coronavirus outbreak in the Navajo Tribe. Antelope Canyon is on the Navajo reserve and an tribe member must be a guide for anyone visiting the canyon. So, unfortunately we will have to come back another time to see this beautiful spot.

Did I mention how excited I am to start exploring again? I am very excited. Lol. Standing in place for March, April and May has been challenging, to say the least. We are happy that we had a beautiful place to explore but, we did struggle with living the life of a hermit and even when we did go out, the social distancing was mind bending at times. It’s very hard when the kids find other kids and want to play. You have to say “NO” to playing….really?

Well that sums up all the reasons I feel excitement around moving again. Not that we will be going out to dinner or reducing our hand washing but, at least we will be taking in all the beauty of the mid-west for 7 weeks. That’s what I call social distancing the right way.

  1. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Horseshoe Bend from the air several times on the way to and from Las Vegas. Stunning sight to see, and I’m sure it’s a stunning site to see at ground level too. Enjoy!
